Some patients never consider the option of a heated tube or may not even know their machine is compatible with one. A heated tube is used to maintain humidity of the air traveling from your machine. Your CPAP machine’s humidifier does already add humidification to the air. However, the air still needs to travel 6-10 feet through a tube. In that distance the air could cool down and potentially leave the humidifier ineffective.  In addition to this, a heated tube also prevents “rainout”. Rainout occurs when a standard tube is used and condensation builds up inside and out the tube. This condensation can accumulate and leak into your mask or onto your pillow. Heated tubing can also help prevent dry and congested nasal passages. Now let’s look and see if your machine is compatible with a heated tube, here is a quick guide:

If you experience any rainout, dry mouth/nose, and congestion, please consider trying a heated tube. It could drastically improve your sleep and comfort. Here at Nationwide Medical we are sure to have the heated tube you need that is compatible with your machine. Give us a call and we can make sure you are one step closer to a better night’s sleep.
